Former National Security Advisor to the President of the United States
Professor Zbigniew Brzezinski was National Security Advisor to President Carter from 1977 to 1981 and a member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. In 1981 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for the significant role he played in the normalisation of US-Chinese relations and for his outstanding contributions to the human rights and national security policies of the United States. Zbigniew has an astute understanding of the complexities of foreign policy, and with a distinguished career both in government and in academia he is highly qualified to advise corporations and financial institutions on international affairs. He is currently Robert E. Osgood Professor of American Foreign Policy at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and counsellor-in-residence at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies. Having been on the faculty of Harvard and Columbia Universities Zbigniew personifies the Woodrow Wilson ideal, combining a successful career in public service with an outstanding career in scholarship. He was selected by the US Chamber of Commerce as one of America's Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Year in 1963, and made a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1969. A frequent speaker at leading conferences throughout the globe he is highly sought after by big business for his in-depth understanding of US foreign policy.
