It's a position he is clearly suited to and one that reflects the changes the game has undergone. Brian has had a varied career in football, he originally signed professional forms for Liverpool in July 1968 when he was 22 years old.

He got his big chance during the 1970-71 seasons, figuring in 33 First Division matches and also scoring the dramatic winning goal in the F.A. cup semi-final against Everton at Old Trafford which took Liverpool to Wembley for the first time since 1965. Brian played in all but 7 of the League matches in 1974-75. He moved on to Plymouth Argyle in the summer of '76 before returning to the North-West and finishing his playing career at Burnley.
