Oscar Pistorius is a South African Paralympic runner, whose lower legs were amputated at age 1. He is the double amputee world record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 metres events and runs with the aid of Cheetah Flex-Foot carbon fibre transtibial artificial limbs. Initially, the IAAF banned him from participating, however in May 2008 the CAS overturned the earlier ruling allowing him to compete at the Beijing Olympics 2008.
Known as the "Blade Runner" and "the fastest man on no legs"In detail
Oscar Pistorius was born with five digits on each hand and two toes on each tiny foot. Each leg was missing its fibula. He is a former rugby and water polo player who remarkably took the silver medal over 400 meters in the 2007 South African National Championships competing against able-bodied runners. That gave rise to the exciting possibility of him competing in the Beijing Olympic Games for South Africa. He has now broken his own world records 26 times. He is still working toward becoming the fastest sprinter in the world, training hard to defend his 200m Paralympic title in Beijing in 2008.
