Lieutenant Peter Reed

Beijing Olympic Gold Medalist and Double World Champion, Men's Coxless Four

Peter Reed is the new star of British Rowing. In 2006, Peter won the National Trials again and was selected back into the men's four. He defended his World Championship title in 2006 to become double World Champion. In 2008 Pete achieved his ultimate goal of winning an Olympic Gold medal when he and the rest of the Coxless Four rowed to victory in Beijing. He is a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy and a great ambassador for the service.

"Peter Reed is an exceptional ambassador for rowing"

In detail

Peter started rowing only 6 years ago when he was spotted using a rowing machine in the gym whilst studying for an engineering degree at the University of the West of England (UWE). He represented Great Britain at the under 23 World Championships. Following his graduation at UWE, Peter was accepted on a 2 year Masters of Science by research degree at Oxford University in 2004 and his extraordinary progress continued when he earned an Oxford blue in the 150th University Boat Race and represented Great Britain in the senior men's pair at the World Championships in Poland. He narrowly missed out on Olympic selection for Athens.

What he offers you

Recently reported as having the largest recorded lung capacity (11.68 litres), Peter Reed offers insights as to how he has been able to put together an unbeaten run of 27 international races and become Olympic Champion in the coxless fours. Pete continues training for the London Olympics in 2012 where he will be one of Britain's brightest medal hopes.
