Tom Daley's likeable character has helped him win the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2007 and the Britain's Best Award for Homegrown Talent 2008. He also appeared in Time Magazine's list of "100 Olympic Athletes to Watch". In 2007, at the age of twelve, he was given a special dispensation to compete at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival; the usual minimum age is fifteen. Competing with a persistent thumb injury, Daley won the silver medal with his synchro-partner in the 10-metre synchronised-diving final. In 2008 he won the 10m platform event at the British Championships to become the youngest winner of the senior British 10m title. He also won the 10m platform synchro title with his new partner.
