Per Lindstrand is best known for the Atlantic balloon crossing made with Sir Richard Branson in July 1987, when they broke the existing distance record of 900 miles and established the record of 3075 miles. In December 1998, again with Sir Richard Branson and Steve Fossett, Per flew the ICO Global balloon 60% of the way round the world covering a distance of 20,000 km.

In detail
Per Lindstrand's aeronautical career started in the Swedish Air Force as an Engineering Officer. He later gained a masters degree in aeronautical engineering and worked for Saab Aircraft in Sweden and Lockheed in the USA. In 1991, Per founded Lindstrand Balloons Ltd. which manufactures hot air balloons. In 2006, he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Institute of British Architects for his highly innovative work in the field of inflatables and their application to habitable structures. He is also in the Guinness Hall of Fame.
