Jeffrey Garten is the Dean of the Yale School of Management and William S. Beinecke Professor in the Practice of International Trade and Finance.
Widely recognised as an expert on global finance and trade Jeffrey uses his considerable know-how to show decision makers how to expand into emerging markets and develop successful leadership strategies.
Early in his career he served on the White House Council on International Policy in the Nixon administration and on the State Department Policy Planning Staff of Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and Cyrus Vance.
He was undersecretary of commerce for international trade from 1993 to 1995, and spent 13 years on Wall Street. There, he specialized in debt restructuring in Latin America for Lehman Brothers and developed Shearson Lehman's investment banking business in Asia.
Jeffrey founded and managed a small investment bank, the Eliot Group, Inc., and specialised in the Japanese mergers and acquisitions business for The Blackstone Group.
Formerly on the faculties of New York University and the Columbia Business School, he writes a monthly column for BusinessWeek magazine on the global marketplace and is the author of over 50 articles for publications that include Foreign Affairs, Harvard Business Review, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
