Until a knee injury ended his playing career in 1991, Alan was one of the most successful British football players of all time. He is the only person to have won all of the honours available at club level at least twice and captained the Liverpool side to an historic double in 1986.
A keen tactical understanding of the game has made Alan Hansen a firm favourite as a football commentator for BBC TV's "Match of the Day", "Grandstand", "Sportsnight" and Sky Sports. He also contributes a weekly newspaper column on soccer and is establishing a reputation as a motivational speaker. He was Runner-up Football Writer's Player of the year 1986 and 1990.
Alan started his professional career with Partick Thistle FC in 1973. Four years later, he joined Liverpool FC, becoming Team Captain in 1985. He stayed with Liverpool until his retirement from playing in 1991. Alan played at International Level 26 times for Scotland between 1979-1987. He was awarded the title of Anglo-Scot of the Year 1986.
During the years Alan played for Liverpool, the team won many titles - the League Championship (eight times); the FA Cup (twice); the European Cup (three times); the League Cup (four times) and the League Super Cup.
Besides his broadcasting work, he is more and more involved in management and training workshops for companies and pursues several business interests. He is a keen golfer (handicap of 4), and among his other interests are tennis, the theatre and hill walking.
