Arthur Smith has written four plays including An Evening with Gary Lineker (with Chris England) which was nominated for an Olivier Award and made into a TV film and Live Bed Show which had a run in the West End, starring Caroline Quentin and Paul Merton.
As a comedian he has played all over the country, including the Comedy Store, Jongleurs and assorted West End Theatres. His show (with Tony Hawkes) Arthur Smith Sings Andy Williams played Edinburgh and then the Comic Strip in New York. His strange version of 'Hamlet' transferred to the Duke of York's Theatre, London.
On radio he is a regular on Loose Ends, presents Sentimental Journeys (both Radio 4) and has featured on umpteen shows ranging from two-hour stints on Talk Radio to six minutes talking about Plato for Radio 4. He also wrote and presented the Smith Lectures (Radio 2) and most recently has narrated Songs from the Terraces also for Radio 2.
On TV he presented Paramount City (BBC1), Full Exposure (LWT) and Up the Brass with Arthur Smith for Channel Four. He has appeared in Red Dwarf, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Room 101, Have I Got News For You, They Think It's All Over, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Celebrity Countdown. He has done pieces on The Travel Show and Carlton Country; he also presented A Short History of Loft Conversions on BBC2.
He has written features for various publications including The Guardian, Elle and The Independent.
Arthur made his debut as a straight actor in 'The Columbia Cousin' by Nick Whitby and he is the world's only alternative tour guide!
