British Tornado bomber, John Peters became a potent symbol of Saddam Hussein's aggression when in January 1991, he was forced to appear on Iraqi television after weeks of torture. He joined the RAF in 1980 as a university cadet and graduated from Manchester University in 1983. In 1987 he became a staff pilot at the Air Navigation School RAF Finningley. In 1988 he converted to Tornado GR1s and was posted to XV Squadron RAF Laarbruch in Germany; the Squadron was subsequently involved in the Gulf War.
