In detail
Edwards initially refused to compete on Sundays due to his devout Christian beliefs, a decision which cost him a chance to compete in the 1991 World Championships. English Schools champion in 1984, Jonathan first jumped 16m in 1986 and progressed rapidly to become the best triple jumper in Britain by 1989. In 1990 he won the Commonwealth Silver medal despite an injured ankle. He was the Triple Jump Champion at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
