Carl Bildt on Internet Governance

Carl Bildt, Chair of the Global Commission on Internet Governance issued a statement on the future of digital privacy and security on Wednesday April 15. This was presented on behalf of the GCIG, prior to the opening of the Global Conference on CyberSpace 2015.

On the occasion of the April 2015 Global Conference on Cyberspace meeting in The Hague, the Commission calls on the global community to build a new social compact between citizens and their elected representatives, the judiciary, law enforcement and intelligence agencies, business, civil society and the Internet technical community, with the goal of restoring trust and enhancing confidence in the Internet. Carl Bildt talks about the framework nuclear agreement that is currently in place with Iran. Carl explains that the framework deal has been welcomed by most of Europe who have been maintaining negotiations with Iran for over a decade and look set to continue. There are a number of significant issues which need to be sorted out before the beginning of July, including the gradual suspension and ultimate repeal of diplomatic and economic sanctions against Iran.
