Paul A. Volcker is known as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve under US Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan (1979 to 1987). Since February 2009, he has been Chairman of the Economic Recovery Advisory Board under President Barack Obama. As of 2006, he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the influential Washington-based financial advisory body, the Group of Thirty, and is a founding member of the Trilateral Commission.

Paul Volcker has received honorary degrees from several educational institutions. Between 2000-2004, he was a director of the United Nations Association of the United States of America, prior to his being appointed to the Independent Inquiry by Kofi Annan. His Fed is widely credited with ending the US' stagflation crisis of the 1970s by limiting the growth of the money supply. As president, he also served as vice chairman of the FOMC. Previously, he served in a variety of positions with the Treasury, Chase Manhattan Bank, and the New York Fed. He was appointed as a member of the Hong Kong Chief Executive's Council of International Advisers in the years of 1998-2005.
