Lord Mervyn King was Governor of the Bank of England and Chairman of its Monetary Policy Committee from 2003 to 2013. He steered the Bank of England through the deepest financial crisis and together with other central bankers, Lord King prevented a great depression by creating economic stability in the banking sector. He now lectures at New York University's Stern School of Business and School of Law as a visiting professor. Lord King has been listed as the eleventh most influential person in the Financial Centres International top 500.

Mervyn King was Deputy Governor at the Bank of England from 1998 to 2003, and Chief Economist and Executive Director from 1991. He studied at King's College, Cambridge, and Harvard and taught at Cambridge and Birmingham Universities before spells as Visiting Professor at both Harvard University and MIT. From October 1984 he was Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics where he founded the Financial Markets Group.
