The global speaker bureau
Theo Jansen is known as the Leonardo Da Vinci of the 21st century. He has devoted his body and soul to creating a new life-form over the last two decades. His "Strandbeest" (Beach Beasts) look so organic and real that from a distance they are mistaken for the skeletons of prehistoric dinosaurs. However, they are made of basic materials such as plastic tubes or sticky tape.
"A self-styled god, Jansen is evolving an entirely new line of animals" Wired News
Theo initially became a painter. He began creating algorithmic simulation programs for artificial life, and the Strandbeest were conceived. In the past few years, the Dutch genius has exhibited his work at some of the most prestigious museums in the world. In 2006, his sculptures were acclaimed in Trafalgar Square and the Institute of Contemporary Art in London. He gained worldwide attention as a result of an advert he shot for BMW. He successfully invented a giant flying saucer. Amongst other awards, he has received the Special Prize of the Jury in Ars Electronica 2005.
