John started his professional show business career in 1966 when he joined in The Frost Report at the BBC, as both a performer and writer. In 1969 he starred in and wrote the first of the classic Monty Python's Flying Circus programmes. As his comic reputation grew, he was soon offered a position as a writer with BBC Radio, where he worked on several programmes, most notably as a sketch writer for The Dick Emery Show.
