Whilst most bands are content with a simple tour bus to take them from gig to gig, Iron Maiden have supersized their transport with the enormous Ed Force One.

Named after the band’s mascot (Eddie), Ed Force One is piloted by none other than the band’s front man Bruce Dickinson, who is also a qualified commercial pilot. This huge Boeing 747 is used to transport the band, the crew and over 12 tons of show equipment between each leg of the Book of Souls tour.

Before the tour kicked off in February 2016, Bruce visited Boeing for a tour of the freshly personalised plane. In the video Bruce remarks “Honestly, it’s such a beautiful aeroplane. This machine enables us to do a European itinerary on an intercontinental basis. So it’s our time machine – it’s our magic carpet”.

With the plane’s exterior featuring artwork of the Book of Souls album cover, and a list of tour destinations, Bruce also admits “there’s a little bit of a flying billboard going on here as well”.

Whist similar to most other planes on the inside, customised touches throughout the cabin tell you that this is going to be no ordinary flight.

Taking in 35 countries the Book of Souls tour kicked off in Florida and ends 4 August in Wacken, Germany.
