Keating Associates provides confidential advice, assistance and ideas to a limited number of Australian and International companies, enabling them to understand and deal successfully with the regional and global environment in which they are operating. Its particular area of emphasis is the Asia Pacific region. In order to provide this service, Keating Associates draws on Paul Keating's unparalleled experience in government, international political and economic affairs and public policy. Born in Sydney, Paul Keating joined politics at the age of 15 when he joined the Australian Labour Party (ALP) in 1969. Six years on, he was appointed Minister for Northern Australia and in 1983, when the Labour party returned to office, he took on the post of Finance Minister. During this time, he implemented far-reaching economic reforms including the progressive deregulation of the financial sector and the floating of the Australian dollar. Mr Keating became Prime Minister in 1991 and whilst continuing to pursue an active economic reform agenda, he focused Australian foreign and economic more directly onto the Asia region and achieved the conclusion of a historic security agreement with Indonesia. His other achievements as PM include the land rights legislation for Australia's indigenous population, a national superannuating scheme and proposals to break the country's constitutional ties with the British Crown. Following the defeat of the ALP in March 1996, Mr Keating resigned from Parliament and has been a Visiting Professor of Public Policy at the University of South Wales. He has continued to travel in the Asia Pacific and also to speak on regional and global issues. |
