David Smith has been Economics Editor of The Sunday Times since 1989, where he writes a weekly column. He is also an associated editor and policy adviser. He writes monthly columns for Professional Investor, British Industry and The Manufacturer, and is also a regular contributor to the CBI's Business Voice and other publications.

David was educated at West Bromwich Grammar School and subsequently studied at University College, Cardiff, Worcester College, Oxford, Birkbeck College and University of London. Prior to entering journalism he was an economist with Lloyds Bank and the Henley Centre for Forecasting.
