Actor, comedian, novelist, columnist, nimble wit and general bon vivant, Stephen Fry is nothing if not one of the more versatile and outspoken talents to become along in the latter half of the 20th century. Multi-talented Stephen has become a popular and familiar face on television in recent years.
Often controversial and outspoken Stephen is a gifted entertainer. He uses his experiences both as a comedian and actor to entertain his audiences with his presentations in which he can show the importance of being a multi-faceted personality.
Fry was born in London but grew up in Norfolk, England, where he attended the Norfolk College of Arts and Technology. He earned his master's degree from Cambridge University, where he joined the Footlights Drama Club. In those years he debuted as a playwright and collaborated with Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie.
After graduation, Fry, Thompson, Laurie and fellow Robbie Coltrane joined the TV sketch comedy series. Fry found great critical and financial success when he was asked to rewrite Noel Gay's Me and My Girl. The stage production won wide acclaim. He made appearances in films such as A Fish Called Wanda and A Handful of Dust. Throughout his illustrious career, Fry has periodically returned to the theatre as an actor. He won particular notice for creating the roll of the philosopher Humphrey in Simon Gray's The Common Pursuit.
Stephen has gained recognition for his columns in The Daily Telegraph, as well as a certain amount of notoriety for various well publicised statements he made in the press. 'The Liar' fired the first fusillade as an original novelist, followed by 'Paperweight', 'The Hippopotamus', 'Making History' and 'Moab is My Washpot' is Stephen's autobiography.
Stephen became a regular presenter of awards shows to include the 2001 and 2002 British Academy Awards and charity shows such as Hysteria for the Terrence Higgins Trust.
Now in demand as an after dinner speaker at corporate entertainment events, Stephen is able to use a mix of humour and wit to offer his audiences a memorable and entertaining evening.
