Trevor Baylis OBE is the inventor of the original windup radio who pioneered a new eco technology that is as relevant and cutting edge today as it was 16 years ago. In 2008, he introduced the world's first Eco Media Player that combines the latest media technology with the freedom and energy efficiency of windup power. Always concerned about the neglect of inventions and intellectual property, he set up Trevor Baylis Brands Ltd to help inventors get their products to market. He is also in demand as a public speaker inspiring others to "think outside the square".
"A charismatic and passionate advocate of invention and creativity"
In detail
Before inventing the clockwork radio, Trevor was a professional swimmer and stuntman. In 1970, Trevor patented a learner swimming pool which he sold to over 350 schools nationwide. This gave him the recognition and funding to concentrate on a career as an inventor. Inspired by a television programme on AIDS in Africa he invented the Clockwork Radio, and in 1997 he was awarded an OBE for services to Africa.
