Prof. Asit K. Biswas is one of the world's leading authorities on water and environmental management. The out-of-box thinker is an advisor to UN Agencies and governments. For his outstanding contributions to solve the world's water problem he received the prestigious 2006 Stockholm Water Prize. He is the founder of the Third World Centre for Water Management in Mexico and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School for Public Policy, Singapore.

As an advisor to the Secretary General of the UN Water Conference, Prof. Biswas was the first to propose the idea of an International Water Supply and Sanitation Decade, subsequently approved unanimously by the UN, to ensure the access to clean water for hundreds of millions of people. He chaired the Middle East Water Commission, which directly contributed to the signing of two treaties in this region. He is co-founder of the International Water Resources Association and the World Water Council and helped with the establishment and development of various UN Environment Programmes.
