Ruth studied English Literature at Oxford and became President of the Oxford University Student Union in 2001. She joined Stonewall in 2005, rising to CEO in 2014 and leading landmark campaigns on homophobia in schools and the Premier League’s Rainbow Laces. She broadened the charity’s remit to include intersectional communities, helping Stonewall forge relationships with over 800 public and private-sector organisations. In 2019, Ruth was appointed one of the youngest crossbench peers in the House of Lords, where she sits independently to scrutinise legislation and advocate on inclusion, LGBTQ+ rights, and social policy.
