Griffith "Griff" Rhys-Jones

Griff Rhys-Jones came to national attention in the early 1980s for his work in the BBC television comedy sketch shows Not the Nine O'Clock News and Alas Smith and Jones. A shrewd businessman he jointly founded TV production company Talkback Productions which was one of UK's leading production companies and is now part of RTL Group. He went on to develop a career as a TV presenter and writer, as well as continuing with acting work.

In detail

At Cambridge University, Griff Rhys-Jones became a member of the famed Footlights troupe, of which he became president. He became known as a presenter, firstly of Comic Relief, and latterly of programmes including Bookworm, Restoration, Restoration Village, Mountain and Treasure House. His other TV work includes two BBC documentaries re-creating Jerome K Jerome's classic novel, 'Three Men In A Boat' and in 2007 appeared in an episode of the BBC genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are?
