As Financial Times Beijing Bureau Chief and later Global China Editor, he shaped international coverage of China’s economic ascent, tech ambitions, and global strategy. Now working at a respected Berlin-based think tank, James advises policymakers and business leaders on the future of Europe–China relations, economic decoupling, and the global technology race. His fieldwork has taken him across Asia and Central Asia, and his career spans both journalism and executive roles in publishing and education.
