Mo Gawdat offers a particularly distinctive perspective because he approaches some of humanity’s biggest challenges with the mindset of an engineer. After decades working in technology and innovation, he turned his attention to the science and mechanics of happiness, developing the framework that became Solve for Happy. The loss of his son Ali in 2014 profoundly changed his life and transformed his research into a global mission to help one billion people become happier.

His thinking has since expanded into the relationship between technology, AI and human wellbeing. In Scary Smart, Mo explored the extraordinary possibilities and risks of artificial intelligence and argued that humanity must influence the values embedded in the technology we create. His latest work takes this thinking further. Alive: A Human’s Guide to Living in the World of AI, due in 2026, examines how AI will reshape society, freedom, accountability, politics, economics and everyday life, while offering a framework for navigating the transition without losing our humanity.

Through Unstressable, Mo and co-founder Alice Law are also developing a practical approach to resilience and performance under pressure, combining neuroscience, behavioural insight and data to help individuals and organisations improve focus, judgement and leadership capacity.
