Bas Lansdorp holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Twente in the Netherlands. His career began with a passion for innovation and sustainability, which led to his co-founding Ampyx Power in 2008. There, he contributed to the development of cutting-edge technologies that harness high-altitude wind energy, addressing the world’s growing need for clean and efficient energy solutions. In 2011, Bas turned his gaze to the stars, co-founding Mars One. His vision for Mars One was not just to send humans to Mars but to establish a sustainable colony that would expand humanity’s reach beyond Earth. While the initiative faced significant challenges and concluded in 2019, it remains an iconic example of visionary thinking and sparked global dialogue about humanity’s future in space.
