David Blanchflower is currently a professor of economics at Dartmouth College in the US. As a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, he was one of the few economists to correctly call the depths of the recession gripping the economy and has spoken out about the caution of his fellow MPC members.

Until 2009 he was also one of the Bank of England’s senior policy makers. David G. Blanchflower has held several research positions in economy for universities in Munich and Bonn and since January 2009 he is the Program Director of the “Future of Labor” research program at the Institute for Study of Labor in Bonn. His research findings on a variety of topics including economics, finance, entrepreneurship and unemployment have been widely published and for his book ‘The Wage Curve’ he was awarded the Princeton University’s Richard A. Lester Prize for ‘the most outstanding book in Industrial Relations and Labor Economics’. Prof. Blanchflower was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2009 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
