Kay Firth-Butterfield is a prominent figure at the intersection of artificial intelligence, ethics, law, and policy. Currently, as the CEO of Good Tech Advisory LLC, Kay advises organisations and speaks to audiences globally, sharing her extensive knowledge and insights on ethical AI practices.

Kay has been at the forefront of Responsible AI development since 2014. As the world’s first C-Suite appointee in AI Ethics, she played a pioneering role in shaping ethical AI standards. She contributed to the Asilomar Principles and served as Vice Chair of the IEEE Global Initiative for Ethically Aligned Design. From 2017 to 2023, she was the Head of AI and Machine Learning at the World Economic Forum. Kay holds a law degree from the University of Cambridge and has served as a barrister and a visiting professor. Her deep understanding of legal frameworks and ethical principles informs her contributions to shaping AI policy and governance. In 2024, she received one of 4 Impact awards given by TIME Magazine for her work over the last 14 years on AI Governance.
